Our Approach to Sleep Hygiene: Nurturing Rest from Day One
At Mindful Sprouts, we believe that healthy sleep isn’t about rigid schedules or leaving your baby to cry. It’s about building a supportive framework—for both you and your little one—rooted in science, mindfulness, and deep intuitive connection. True sleep hygiene begins gently right from birth, establishing rhythmic, predictable cues that help your baby’s developing nervous system understand when it is time to rest.
We approach sleep as a family ecosystem. By blending evidence-based pediatric sleep science with mindful practices, we help mothers and infants thrive together. Rather than training, we focus on foundations, using gentle, time-tested tools that respect your baby's biology and your peace of mind:
Full, Mindful Feeds: Prioritizing full, efficient feedings during the day ensures your baby is biologically satisfied and helps naturally anchor their circadian rhythms (their internal clock).
The Comfort of Structure: Using safe, intentional swaddling mimics the cozy security of the womb, soothing the startle reflex and signaling that it is time to drift off.
Co-Regulation & Deep Breathing: Babies mirror our nervous systems. When you practice deep, calm breathing, your lowered heart rate actually helps regulate your baby's stress response, creating a shared pocket of peace.
A Soothing Soundscape: Utilizing continuous white noise or soft, grounding music masks household disruptions and provides a familiar acoustic cue for sleep.
The Art of "Le Pause": Inspired by the French wisdom in Bringing Up Bébé, we practice the gentle art of pausing when a baby fusses. This brief observation gives your little one a chance to transition sleep cycles, preventing us from accidentally waking a baby who is actually just dreaming.
Sleep is a relationship, not a checklist. By cultivating these gentle practices from the very start, we protect your rest, honour your baby's development, and turn bedtime back into a soft place to land.
Moving Beyond the Basics: Individualized Sleep Support & Coaching
While gentle sleep hygiene provides a beautiful foundation, every family dynamic, temperament, and threshold for exhaustion is unique. If you reach a point where you feel your family needs more structured support, we are here to walk that path with you—completely free of judgment.
Whether your goal is to transition away from specific sleep associations, lengthen short naps, or encourage longer stretches of nighttime sleep, we offer expert guidance on a variety of evidence-based sleep coaching methods, including responsive interval training (sometimes referred to as timed check-ins).
If you choose to implement a structured sleep plan, our role is to act as your compassionate guide and steady anchor:
Customized to Your Values: We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all methods. We take the time to understand your baby’s unique temperament, your family's lifestyle, and your comfort level to co-create a plan that feels sustainable for you.
Rooted in Responsive Care: When utilizing structured methods like interval training, we prioritize emotional security. We guide you on how to implement predictable, timed intervals of reassurance, ensuring your baby always knows they are supported while they learn the skill of independent sleep.
Hands-On Implementation or Remote Guidance: Depending on what your family needs most, we can be right there in your home to physically implement the plan during those first challenging nights, or we can provide step-by-step coaching, virtual text support, and reassurance from the sidelines.
Protecting Maternal Well-Being: Sleep deprivation is a major risk factor for postpartum mood challenges. Our approach always balances your infant’s developmental readiness with your mental health, helping you reclaim the rest you need to show up fully for your family.
You do not have to navigate the confusing, often contradictory world of sleep advice alone. Whatever method feels right for your family, we provide the evidence-based structure and hands-on emotional support to help everyone get a good night's rest.
Restorative Nights
Sleep is the foundation of mental health. Our overnight support ensures your family wakes up feeling capable and calm, whether your baby is 3 days or 3 months old.
Standard Overnight Support: 9-hour minimum. Focused on gentle sleep hygiene and "Sleep from Day 1" habits that serve you well into the first year.
Investment: $45–$50 / hour (+HST)
Premium Awake Care: For those seeking the highest level of vigilance. I remain fully awake and alert, monitoring your baby’s every need while you achieve total REM sleep.
Investment: Add $15–$25 / hour (+HST) to standard rates.
“Leah supported us through a very hard time… She was thoughtful and patient, taking the time to understand our experience and tolerance for different types of sleep intervention. She gave us the tools to help our little one at a pace we were comfortable with an even after our sessions, she checked in, celebrated our progress and reminded us we weren’t alone. With Leah’s help our little one is sleeping through the night and we couldn’t be happier with our experience!”

Frequently Asked Questions
-
I frequently support families at Mount Sinai, St. Joseph’s, Michael Garron, and Sunnybrook, as well as home births across the GTA.
-
Absolutely. My experience includes supporting surgical recoveries and twin deliveries, focusing on physical comfort and emotional processing.
-
While I am not a mental health clinician, a core pillar of my work is emotional attunement. I provide a non-judgmental space to process your birth story and the intense emotions of the fourth trimester. I am trained to recognize the signs of postpartum mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) and can provide immediate, trusted referrals to specialized therapists in the GTA or Southern Georgian Bay to ensure you have a full circle of care.
-
Yes. Supporting twin births is a specialty of mine. Whether you are in a downtown condo or a home in North York, managing two (or more!) newborns requires a specific set of logistics. I help coordinate feeding schedules, tandem soothing techniques, and overnight care so that parents of multiples can actually get the restorative sleep they need to function.
-
Many parents miss the movement they enjoyed during pregnancy. My in-home wellness visits are designed to bridge the gap. We focus on gentle postpartum movement, breathwork for pelvic floor health, and guided meditation to calm the nervous system. These sessions are fully customizable and can be done right on your sofa or bed while I hold or feed the baby.
-
My standard rates are $45–$50/hour (+HST). For families outside my immediate Toronto West-End/Ossington radius—such as those in Aurora, Stouffville, or Muskoka—a travel fee may apply based on mileage. For extensive support in the Collingwood and Blue Mountains area, I often coordinate through my sister site, doulabythebay.ca, to ensure the most efficient care for your location.
-
Many private insurance plans in Canada are beginning to cover "Postpartum Care" or "Doula Services" under wellness or nursing spend accounts. While I recommend checking with your specific provider, I provide detailed, professional invoices that include all necessary business information for you to submit for potential reimbursement. For families with Carrot Benefits, I am already registered in their system for birth & postpartum doula support, so the claiming process is super simple.
